Color Trends from the New York Stationery Show

This spring a team of HOTP trend-spotters hit the aisles of the National Stationery Show in New York. What did they find?

Well, when it comes to color, the winning combination for summer and fall is lime and purple paired with shades of light blue and touches of aqua or yellow. Pink is strong, yet almost always seen with brown. And look for groovy 70’s shades of avocado and orange (from mandarin to sunset).

What does this mean for scrapbook retailers? Scrapbooking is a fashion-based market, with consumers eager to buy the newest and latest thing. And color offers just that—a fresh new look to spice up basic supplies like paper and embellishments. If it’s new and different, scrappers want it.

And these trendy colors are already appearing in scrappers’ photographs. Think about it: These color combinations are everywhere, especially in clothing. When your customer gets ready to scrap the photo of her little girl wearing the coolest new colors, she’ll naturally look for papers and supplies that match.

What’s out there to fit these trends? Well, at Hot Off The Press we use trends to determine the colors and patterns in our papers. Look at Retro sarapapers™ and Fresh Citrus sarapapers™ for two great examples of adapting the latest trends to fit scrapbookers’ needs.
